BILL DEMONG, MEN'S NORDIC COMBINED LARGE HILL Bill Demong and Johnny Spillane gave the Americans a 1-2 finish Thursday in the Nordic combined large hill competition that was marred by bad weather. Demong, a Vermontville, N.Y. native who lives and trains in Park City, ended Americas golden goose egg in Nordic sports at the Winter Games by winning the 10-kilometer cross-country leg in 25 minutes, 32.9 seconds. Spillane won his third silver of these games, finishing four seconds behind.

LINDSEY VONN, JULIA MANCUSO, OLYMPIC GIANT SLALOM Lindsey Vonn crashed out of the first run of the Olympic giant slalom race Wednesday and injured her right pinkie. Vonns teammate Julia Mancuso was the next skier down the mountain and had to pull up midway through her run because Vonn was still on the side of the course. Mancuso, the defending champion, then had to make her way back up to the top of the course for a later start. She ultimately finished a disappointing 18th in the first run.

TED LIGETY, OLYMPIC GIANT SLALOM Park City's Ted Ligety, the gold medalist in the combined at the 2006 Turin Olympics, finished ninth in Tuesday's giant slalom at the Vancouver Olympics. Carlo Janka of Switzerland added the Olympic gold medal to his world championship in giant slalom on Tuesday, while Bode Miller failed to finish in his bid for a record fourth mens Alpine medal.

LINDSEY VONN WINS OLYMPIC DOWNHILL GOLD Lindsey Vonn raced her way to gold at the Vancouver Olympics on Wednesday, shaking off weather delays and a frightening shin injury to lead the United States to an epic 1-2 finish for the Americans on the Whistler Mountain course. The part-time Park City resident ran a nearly perfect race under bright, sunny skies and finished in 1 minute, 44.19 seconds for her first Olympic medal, with defending giant slalom gold medalist Julia Mancuso just 0.56 seconds behind for silver.
